Whatever Happened To George Jetson?

The Jetson family at the height of their fame in 2062

By the time he had reached the age of forty, George Jetson was at the pinnacle of his career.

He had it all; a wife, two kids, a dog, a robotic housemaid, a flying car, and a high-income role at the incredibly profitable intergalactic conglomerate Spacely Space Sprockets. Not to mention the fact that his reality show was the most watched programme on holovision between the years 2061 and 2064. But behind all of the fame and glory, the love and affection, the fundamental morals and the family values, stood a dark and deeply troubled soul.

The fortune of wealth amassed by "The Jetsons" franchise in its first three seasons was unprecedented. Not since the famous zombie season of Keeping up with the Kardashians (aptly named "Digging up the Kardashians") of 2043 had the viewer ratings for a reality holovision programme been so high. Yet, as unpredictable as the rise to fame had been, nobody could have predicted the disastrous turn of events that was about to unfold.

The popularity of the third season of The Jetsons sparked a raft of contract renegotiations, as cast and crew alike attempted to cash in on the financial upswing that was propagated from advertising revenue and merchandise sales. Foremost among the personnel looking for a bigger slice of the pie was George, whose agent went to the studio demanding that his contract be redrafted to allow him sole control over episode writing in addition to a 200% rise in his pay. Seeing that they had little choice but to placate the show’s biggest star, the studio executives had little choice but to fold to his demands, and by the time season four went into production, George had complete control over The Jetsons.

Instead of keeping that winning formula that had the eyes of the universe upon them at all possible times for the first three years, the fourth season produced many "experimental" episodes; the storylines of which included an extramarital affair between George and the robot housemaid Rosie, and an episode where his son Elroy was inexplicably transformed into a fish.

Elroy Jetson - AKA "Troutboy"

"I remember showing up for filming one afternoon, and dad told me I had to have plastic surgery to implant gills on my face for an upcoming scene where it would be revealed that I was in fact a trout.

I thought to myself, 'What the fuck am I doing here?'."

By the end of the fourth season, the show had been through somewhat of a catastrophic fall from grace. The critical reception to the "new and improved" Jetsons was poor. It was cancelled by ABC in August 2064, much to the relief of virtually everyone, except of course George himself.

With his show, reputation, and life in ruins, George purchased a floating mansion high in the atmosphere above Guatemala and became a complete recluse, refusing to speak with anyone who called upon him, including his family. The only person he allowed through the gates of his complex was Rosie, the robot housemaid, who would occasionally run errands for George. Before long, Rumours had begun to circulate about a potential real-life affair between George and Rosie; rumours which were spectacularly confirmed to be true in late September 2064 when the couple were spotted at the 'sedcutiva nudist beach' on the planet Darmak 4, widely believed by travel critics to be the most romantic place in the entire universe.

However, the honeymoon was soon over for George and Rosie, as Jane Jetson was quick to file for divorce, immediately demanding half of George's entire multibillion-dollar estate. With the evidence of infidelity irrefutable, his legal team had no choice but to agree to his wife's demands. In addition, the relationship between George and Rosie began to break down, and many close to the pair believed he had become abusive.

Rosie the Housemaid

"One night he came home from the space bar, looking for some digital love, and let's just say that the only hard drive he had with him was a floppy disk, if you get my drift... I'm referring to a serious erectile dysfunction. Beep."

What seemed funny to Rosie at the time was anything but funny to George. He beat her so badly one night that she had to undergo serious reconstructive surgery. It left her crippled. Doctors tried desperately to restore her to her original state, but unfortunately the only thing they could make from her functioning parts was a wheelchair. She now requires the use of a human to help her speak, and many believe she will be a wheelchair for the rest of her half-life.

Jane Jetson - Money Enthusiast

"I was so shocked when I heard about what George had done, my tiara fell off and I almost dropped this pile of cash into my solid gold toilet."

Unfortunately, this did not mark the end of George's abusive behaviour, and his focus quickly turned to his youngest child Elroy. George had reportedly become infuriated on discovering his son's sexual orientation, and banished the young boy to a remote frozen island on one of Neptune's moons.

Elroy has not been heard from in 12 years.

"I had known for a long time that Elroy was quite obviously gay. I once walked in on him watching the film "Spaceballs", and I'm not talking about the film starring Rick Moranis, I'm referring to the other one starring Dick Moreanus."

With his life in ruins, his career down the toilet, his fortune diminished, his son missing, his wife estranged, his lover a wheelchair and his criminal record in disrepute, things looked down and out for George Jetson. He needed a miracle to save him...

He didn't get one.

He died in 2067.

Heroin overdose.
